With the unfolding tragedy in Japan over the past week or so, and the endless media stream of heart-wrenching imagery, One cant help but feel it all reflects very poorly on western society.
Essentially every human need has been taken away from the affected Japanese people, Food, Shelter, Clean Water... and yet they conduct themselves with the utmost dignity and respect, they help strangers and foreigners and offer them what little they have, they form quiet and peaceful ques waiting for rations to be handed out,
What is being offered is a ball of rice between two people in most places and a very small amount of water and very limited medical supplies, yet they remain peaceful and patient.
I can't help but feel if the same disaster had of fallen on the western world there would be absolute choas, rioting and looting, as there has been on several occasions when disaster has struck. Hurricane Catriona being a prime example of this.
As to the reasons for this, it's a very long winded discussion that has several deep rooted causes, all i hope is that people can step back from their material orientated and superficial lives and take a moment of reflection and realise that what they're seeing on the tv isn't just another news story, it's their fellow human beings enduring incredible hardship that doesn't look to end anytime soon, to reflect on how lucky we are and what we take for granted every single day, and how quickly that can be taken away, and finally to reflect on how we conduct ourselves towards each other.
We can, and should learn a lot from how the people of Japan have conducted themselves in their time of extreme adversity.

To prove your point look at France and Great Britain how excited they are to invade Libia with the motivation of "helping" the poor citizens abused by their own goverment. BULLSHIT!
ReplyDeleteLet's roll back and look at Iraq who is actualy worse now then under Saddam Hussein. Two, look at Yogoslavia/Kosovo, Afghanistan, etc.
The western countries are lead by a bunch of dickh***s with only one thing in mind: OIL.
Sad that some people are actualy proud to join the NATO forces and risk their lifes for some to get a bigger leader seat SUV.
Regarding Japan, I feel extremely bad for what happened there. Unfortunately there is more to come for everyone as we are abusing the planet....
