The Inconvenient Truths?

"You want the truth!?..."

Well we may want the truth, but what are we going to do with it? Whether it be self realised or a "told" truth, how are we going to deal with it?

Certain truths are irrelevant and bear little thought process to accept and be comfortable with, they pass through our minds in a flash and tend not to recur. Mostly they're the "Truths" we come across, small realisations that have little consequence.

But what about the stuff that actually is relevant and does make a difference to our lives? On some level we all experience a period of time where we struggle with what we know inside, we just dont know what to do with it. For some it can be an isolated period of time once in a blue moon and it gets dealt with. For others it can be something that becomes entwined with their lives, somewhat of an inner struggle that never feels resolved.

For the ones who accept it for what it is, they deal with it. There are certain truths that are almost guaranteed to cause pain, there will be certain truths that we know will make us have to look at ourselves from a critical and analytical perspective, certain truths that challenge us. But even knowing whats to come, they accept it and get through it, knowing that on the other side of it there will be accpetance and comfort with what they had to deal with. What can be learned from those experiences far outweighs what can be learned from keeping yourself in the bubble, it builds strength from knowledge.

And then there are the ones who don't feel they have the capability or strength to accept or deal with what they know, in fear of seeing something in themselves they're afraid to see, or a geniune lack of guidance or knowledge in how to approach it. They will know its there, but generally choose avoidance over confronting and resolving the issue in the hope that it will subside. They will go through periods of comfort in terms of awareness of the problem, but more often then not revert to the previous state of mind in struggling with whats inside. They will let it manifest within themselves, potentially creating a divide between themselves and reality in which the problem exists. Staying in a heightened sense of emotion and indecisivness and an inability to apply logic to the thought process. Keeping yourself in that bubble is damaging in the long run as the more issues that build up and remain unresolved, the more it affects the persons pysche. It affects how they conduct themselves towards others and in how they conduct themselves towards life in general.

Those truths will always arise at some point or another in our lives. How we deal with them can greatly affect our personal happiness, and the happiness of others around us. It can affect how we perceive reality, it can affect how we perceive and value ourselves and others. It can affect a multitude of aspects in our lives.

When confronted with an issue, or a truth that may be difficult to accept, especially when the truth is to do with yourself, it may seem like the easier option to go into avoidance mode. It may feel safer, but in terms of your mental well being and personal happiness, you will always be shooting yourself in the foot by avoiding it.

Dealing with it head on and accepting it for what it is can be more difficult. It challenges us and can leave us more exposed at times, but resolving it and moving forward is the only way for proper growth of who we are and what we learn. In the long run it will serve a much more beneficial purpose in our lives and the lives of the people who are close to us.

In times of increasing confusion, and the struggle that life may throw at us at times, struggling with ourselves and our own reality is the last thing we need.

It may appear like the obvious is being stated, but there's a very big difference between understanding the logic, and applying it.
